A short walk around the harbour for a long, amazing seafood mezze lunch at Theo’s restaurant on the marina, with a steady stream of prawns, mussels, and just-grilled fish, watched closely by the resident pelican. Meet the locals Driving to a hilltop village, emerald-green hillsides pop with colourful hues of wildflowers. Here, orange and lemon fruit trees grow in abundance. For a taste of local life, we make and bake bread, stamped as is tradition by Sophia. Her home-made halloumi is fresh and warm, like you’ve never tasted. Traditional Cypriot coffee is brewed, and hot bread out of the oven is enjoyed with marmalade, homemade from oranges picked from the trees in the garden. At Spring of Life Forever, in the beautiful village of Amargeti, restaurant owner Mastros, also known as Yiannis, is the unofficial Mayor of the village. His talents extend to brewing beer in his microbrewery, and he makes homemade carob syrup available to try and buy. Explore the tiny village of Amargeti further, with its 171 residents, stone houses, cobbled alleys, and fragrant orchards and admire the architecture. Be sure to peek inside its two churches and museum for a snapshot of rural Cypriot life. Sundowners are enjoyed at the spectacular new St Andrews Rooftop Bar, which affords sweeping views over the tops of the palm trees out to the sparkling Mediterranean.
